Schernikau is a district of the town of Bismark (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

geography

The village of Schernikau in the southeastern Altmark is located about six kilometers west of Stendal in a slightly hilly area that gradually slopes down to the Uchtetal to the south and east .

history

Schernikau was first mentioned in a document as villa Scernekaw on February 2, 1292 , when the Margraves Otto and Konrad transferred some hooves and rights in Schwechten and Schernikau to the Stendal cathedral monastery .

The name can be derived from the Slavic : cernekowe = "Schwarzenhaus" - belkowe = "Weissenhaus" (today's district Belkau, first mentioned in 1283).

Incorporation

Until December 31, 2009 Schernikau was an independent municipality with the associated district of Belkau .

The municipal councils of the municipalities decided on an area change agreement

that their communities are dissolved and united to a new unified community called the city ​​of Bismark (Altmark) . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.

A local council with five members including the local mayor was formed in the incorporated municipality and now the village of Schernikau.
