Käthen is a village and part of the town of Bismark (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

geography

The Altmark village of Käthen is located between Stendal and Gardelegen , on the upper Uchte , which here turns east towards Stendal. The extensive forests west of Käthen belong to the northern foothills of the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide .

history

The originally Slavic settlement appears for the first time in 1254 as a Kotene in a document of the Neuendorf monastery . The originally two manors in the village were combined with the Deetz manor in 1801 and 1804 respectively.

Originally located in the Tangermünde district , the place belonged to the district of Gardelegen from July 1, 1816 . On July 25, 1952, the municipality of Käthen was reclassified into the district of Stendal , from which today's district of Stendal emerged .

In 1840 there were 209 inhabitants in Käthen, in 1910 already 262, in 2010 only 137.

Until December 31, 2009, Käthen was an independent municipality with the Deetzerwarthe residential area , located on the old Heerstraße.

The municipal council of the municipality of Käthen decided on June 15, 2009 to approve an area change agreement, which dissolved their municipality and became part of a new unified municipality called the city of Bismark (Altmark) . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.

A local council with 9 members including the local mayor was formed in the incorporated municipality and now the village of Käthen.
