The Altmark street village of Belkau is eight kilometers northwest of the district town of Stendal.

history

The first mention as Belkowe dates back to 1283. The name is of Slavic origin and is interpreted as the "House of the White". In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the village was called Belkow .

Incorporations

On July 1, 1973 the municipality of Belkau was dissolved and incorporated into the municipality of Schernikau. Since Schernikau was incorporated into Bismark (Altmark) on January 1, 2010, the Belkau district has been part of the newly created village of Schernikau and the city of Bismark (Altmark).
