Herricht & Preil

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Herricht & Preil was a popular comedian duo in the GDR , consisting of Rolf Herricht (1927–1981) and Hans-Joachim Preil (1923–1999). Her shows and appearances on GDR television achieved great fame; some sentences became winged words . Herricht and Preil were probably the most popular comedian duo in the GDR. In a survey by the MDR in 2008, they were voted among the most popular humorists .

The two first met in Bernburg in 1951 ; their first joint performed sketch was "Die Schachpartie" in 1953. For almost three decades (until Herricht's death in 1981) Herricht and Preil performed together skits that Preil wrote.

Preil played the superintendent nine-times clever; Herricht took over the naive farmer's cunning part. The two were often compared with fat and stupid because of this way of playing . Herricht, however, never understood what Preil was trying to say, but still kept him on the black ice and was often a brilliant winner in the end. The best-known skits of the duo include “The Buying of the Piano”, “The Garden Friend”, “The Postage Stamp” and “The Acquaintance of Travel”.

Versions of many of her skits have been released on various records.
