Staff Captain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The staff captain , in the cavalry also staff commander , is a historical military rank used in the Prussian , Russian and Swedish armies . He was between the prime lieutenant (later first lieutenant ) and the captain / Rittmeister . Another name was Kapitänleutnant (Capitain-Lieutenant). He often represented the actual captain and company commander in his absence.

However, this could also be permanent if this mostly noble captain z. B. had no "interest" in the company command - but was dependent on the rank of "captain" and wearing the uniform within the framework of the company economy for reasons of prestige and status .

In the German armies of the 18th century, the colonel and the other staff officers of a regiment were usually each owner of a company within the regiment and, in addition to their basic service salary, received the significant income from the occupation at the time, while those officers who actually led the company received the title of staff captain held and had a comparatively very low income. The same conditions existed with the Swedish army at the same time. The ranks were staff captains and staff masters .

In the Bavarian Army , the second class captain corresponded to the staff captain.
