Xixona in the Valencian Community

Xixona ( Spanish Jijona ) is a city in the Valencian Community belonging province of Alicante in Spain . It is located about 20 km north of Alicante .

history

Xixona is mentioned for the first time in writing in the Treaty of Almizra of March 26, 1244 between Alfonso X. of Castile , called the Wise, and Jaime I of Aragon , called the Conqueror. However, there are indications of the first human settlement as early as the Bronze Age (2000–1300 BC).

The Turrón de Xixona (not to be confused with the specialty of the same name from Alicante), a sweet made from almonds, honey, sugar and egg white, is well known.
