Agost is a southeastern Spanish municipality ( municipio ) with 4758 inhabitants (at January 1, 2019) in the province of Alicante of the Valencian Community .

location

Agost is located near the Costa Blanca in southeastern Spain. The center of Agost is about 18 kilometers northwest of Alicante and about 20 kilometers north of Elche . In the north the municipality borders on Castalla , in the east on Tibi and Alicante, in the west on Petrer and Monforte del Cid and in the south also on Alicante. The city is located in the Alicante-Elche metropolitan area .

economy

Until the 1960s, most of the residents lived from the pottery and the agricultural sector. Today eleven potteries are still active in the community.
