NGC 252 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is an estimated 227 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky there is the galaxy NGC 258 , NGC 260 , IC 1584 .
The type IaP supernova SN 1998de was observed here.
The object was discovered on October 26, 1786 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
