NGC 290 is the name of an open star cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud , which is about 200,000 light years from Earth . The diameter of NGC 290 is roughly 65 light years.
The open star cluster NGC 290 was discovered on April 11, 1834 by the British astronomer John Frederick William Herschel .
