Paulo Alves Sarmento

Paulo Alves Sarmento (born February 6, 1957 in Laclo , Aitemua , Portuguese Timor ; † June 15, 2019 in Dili , East Timor ), battle name Tubir Loke Dalan (short form Tuloda ), was a politician from East Timor. He was a member of the Partido Democrático (PD) .

From August 1975 Sarmento was a member of FALINTIL and Vice Secretary of FRETILIN in Region III in the fight for freedom against the Indonesian occupation. He was captured in January 1979 and exiled by the Indonesians to the island of Atauro until 1987 .

In 2001 he ran in the elections to the constituent assembly at number 3 on the list of the Partido Democrático. and then from 2001 to 2007 was a member of the East Timorese National Parliament and a member of Commission D (Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment). After that, Sarmento no longer took part in elections. He died in 2019 in the Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares (HNGV) and was buried in the Heroes' Cemetery in Metinaro on June 19.

In 2006 Sarmento was awarded the Ordem Nicolau Lobato for his participation in the struggle for freedom .
