Ordem Nicolau Lobato

The Ordem Nicolau Lobato ( German  order Nicolau Lobato ) is an order of East Timor . It is named after the freedom fighter and politician Nicolau dos Reis Lobato .

The Ordem Nicolau Lobato is awarded to activists who participated as civilians in the independence movement of East Timor against the Indonesian occupation (1975–1999) for eight or more years. This also includes the civilian personnel of the supply bases. The order was created together with other awards for veterans with the law 3/2006 "Estatuto dos Combatentes da Libertação Nacional" ( German  statute of fighters of national liberation ).

The medal is awarded in three grades, which are based on the rank of the person distinguished in the political hierarchy in the resistance. The state president is responsible for classifying the individual persons . The presidential decree 51/2006 serves as a specification.

First degree (upper level):

In addition, the order is graded according to the time of participation in the freedom struggle:

  • more than eight and less than 15 years
  • more than 15 and less than 20 years
  • more than 20 and less than 24 years
  • more than 24 years

The order shows a picture of Nicolau Lobato and bears the Portuguese inscription "Pátria ou Morte A Vitória é certa" ( German  fatherland or death. Victory is certain ) on the reverse .
