José da Silva Panão

José da Silva Panão (born November 4, 1955 in Ossu , Portuguese Timor , † August 16, 2015 in Jakarta , Indonesia ), battle name Fo Laran (Folaran) , was a politician from East Timor . Most recently he was a member of the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT) party.

During the Indonesian occupation (1975-1999) Panão was a prominent member of the resistance. In mid-1977 Panão was replaced as Chief of Staff by Domingos da Costa Ribeiro at a meeting of the Central Committee of FRETILIN (CCF) in Aicurus , due to differences of opinion about the restructuring of FALINTIL .

From January 1, 1976 to November 28, 1978 he was a member of the regional central committee of FRETILIN and from November 29 to December 31, 1978 a simple activist. From February 1, 1976 to February 28, 1977 Panão was the person in charge of the OPJT (Organização Popular de Juventude Timorense) for the Ponta Leste region, from November 28, 1977 to December 3, 1978 zone activist in the Ponta Leste sector and from December 1 to March 2, 1978 Deputy in charge of liaison and information in the Dili Autonomous Region.

Between May 3 and October 10, 1980 Panão was exiled by the Indonesians to the island of Atauro .

From December 1, 1980 to March 3, 1981 he assumed the position of Vice-President for Liaison and Information in the Ponta Leste region, and from March 3, 1981 to December 31, 1986 as a liaison and information member of the CRRN (Concelho Revolucionário da Resistência Nacional ) and from January 1, 1987 to December 31, 1992 member of the group for agitation and propaganda. From August 15, 1993 to September 14, 1998 he was secretary of the ODR (Ordem Diretiva da Resistência) and from September 15, 1998 to October 25, 1999, secretary of the Dili Autonomous Region of the FPI (Frente Política Interna).

On position 5 on the list, Panão won a seat in the constituent assembly for the Partido Democrático (PD) in the elections on August 30, 2001 , but did not take it up.

In 2007 Panão was one of the founding members of the CNRT party and became its deputy general secretary.

From 2012 he was a member of the National Parliament of East Timor and here Vice-Chairman of the Commission for Infrastructure, Transport and Communication (Commission E). Panão died on August 16, 2015 in the Waloyu Hospital in Jakarta while on a business trip. Death came unexpectedly.

On November 28, 2006, Panão was awarded the Ordem Nicolau Lobato for his commitment to the liberation of the people . He received the first degree veteran honor. As a founding member of the resistance, he also received the Ordem de Dom Boaventura .

Panão was married and had six children.
