Ossu is an East Timorese town in the municipality of Viqueque .
geography
Ossu is located 622 m above sea level in the Suco Ossu de Cima ( Ossu administrative office ). The place is located in southeast Timor, about 13 km as the crow flies north of the municipal capital Viqueque and about 91 km southeast of the state capital Dili . Ossu is surrounded by several mountains. The Monte Mundo Perdido in the west, the Builo in the south, the Matebian massif in the east and the Fatu Laritame in the north.
There is a community health center, a helipad, a primary school, a pre-secondary school and a secondary school, the Sta. Teresina Colegio . The Catholic parish church of Sta. Teresinha do Menino Jesus ( Theresa of the Child Jesus ), which was inaugurated on November 30, 2012.
history
Ossu used to be an independent empire that was ruled by a Liurai .
In 1939 a mission with a small school was opened in Ossu. Francisco Guterres , known as Lú-Olo , former speaker of parliament and chairman of FRETILIN , the largest party in the country, was born on October 7, 1954 in Ossu. Here he also went to Sta. Between 1963 and 1969 . Teresina Colegio of the Salesians of Don Bosco . 1973 Guterres looked after the school for a year. The future bishop of Dili Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo also went to school here.
At the end of 1979 there was an Indonesian camp in Ossu for East Timorese who should be relocated by the occupiers for better control. Rooms in the college were used for interrogations.
