Parliamentary elections in East Timor 2001
The first parliamentary elections in East Timor were held on August 30, 2001. At that time the country was still under UNTAET administration , since international troops had taken control of the Indonesian occupiers. The parliament received its full sovereignty with East Timor's independence on May 20, 2002. She received 55 seats, including 12 of the district representatives. Only in Oe-Cusse Ambeno did the independent candidate António da Costa Lelan win the direct mandate. Other independent candidates were Maria Domingas Alves , Daniel da Silva Ramalho , Maria Olandina Isabel Caeiro Alves , Teresa Maria de Carvalho and Domingos Alves .
