Joaquim Barros Soares

Joaquim Barros Soares (born September 5, 1960 ), fighting name Rio de Janeiro , is a politician from East Timor . He is a member of FRETILIN . During the Indonesian occupation, Soares was active in the independence movement.

In the elections for the Constituent Assembly on August 30, 2001 Soares won the direct mandate of the Liquiçá district with 78.43% of the vote.

With the independence of East Timor on May 20, 2002 , the assembly became a national parliament and Soares deputy. Here he was a member of Commission E (Commission on Poverty Elimination, Rural and Regional Development and Gender Equality). After the new elections in June 2007 Soares left parliament.

In 2019 Soares was the coordinator of FRETILIN for the Liquiçá administrative office .

In 2008 Soares received the Ordem Nicolau Lobato .
