Júlio Sarmento da Costa

Júlio Sarmento da Costa (battle name: Meta Malik , born July 20, 1959 in Horai-Quic , Portuguese Timor ) is a politician from East Timor . From 2012 to 2015 he was State Secretary for Veterans and Former Fighters. He has been Minister for Veterans since 2020. Costa is a member of the Partido Democrático (PD) .

Political career

In the parliamentary elections in East Timor 2007 , Costa was hopelessly on the 22nd place on the PD list.

In the 2012 elections , Mendonça was in 13th place on the list and barely did not get into the national parliament despite the waiver of those placed in front . In any case, Costa would have had to forego the office of parliament, since he was sworn in as State Secretary for veterans and former fighters on August 8, 2012. With the government reshuffle in 2015 on February 16, Costa resigned from the East Timorese cabinet .

In the 2017 elections , Costa was now in 8th place on the list. Although the PD only won seven seats, António da Conceição renounced his seat, so that Costa moved up and was elected the first deputy speaker of the parliament on the second day of the session, September 6, 2017 has been. He was also a member of the Commission on Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security (Commission B). In the parliamentary elections in 2018 , Costa again missed the direct entry into parliament on list position 7. The PD only won 5 seats.

On May 29, 2020, Costa was sworn in as Minister for Veterans (Ministro dos Assuntos de Combatentes da Libertação Nacional MACLN) of the VIII government .

Honors

Costa has been awarded the Ordem Nicolau Lobato , first degree, for participation in the independence movement between the ages of 8 and 14.
