Miguel Soares Pinto

Miguel Soares Pinto (born May 20, 1954 in Viqueque , Portuguese Timor ; † June 5, 2013 , Bandung , Indonesia ), fighting name Camaleão, was an East Timorese freedom fighter.

Pinto fought against the Indonesian occupiers in his home region of Viqueque until he was captured from January 1, 1979 to November 12, 1980. From September 15, 1998 to October 25, 1999 he was the Vice Secretary of the Conselho Nacional de Resistência Timorense (CNRT) of the Viqueque region.

Pinto was a member of the Partido Social Democrata (PSD) and ran for election in 2007 and 2012 without being on the party list for the national parliament of East Timor .

From 2009 until his death, Pinto was a member of the Committee for Honor, Register Monitoring and Appeal ( Portuguese Comissão de Homenagem, Supervisão do Registo e Recursos ), which was responsible for the official registration of all national liberation fighters.

In 2006 Pinto was awarded the Ordem Nicolau Lobato . He died in 2013 while in Bandung, Indonesia for medical treatment.
