David Dias Ximenes (2017)

David Dias Ximenes (born March 1, 1953 in Alawa Leten , Baguia , Portuguese Timor ), fighting name Mandati , is a politician from East Timor . He is a member of the FRETILIN party .

Career

David Dias Ximenes is the son of Julio Dias Ximenes and Marcelina Guterres. He attended the school in Ossu , the pre-secondary school of the Colegio Fatumaca and finally the Liceu Dr. Francisco Machado in Dili . After East Timor's independence was restored in 2002, Ximenes studied at the Universidade Nasionál Timór Lorosa'e (UNTL), where he graduated in administration in 2010.

Ximenes graduated from public service school and then worked as a civil servant. From the Conselho Nacional de Resistência Timorense (CNRT), the resistance against the Indonesian occupation, he was Vice President within East Timor and from 1998 a member of the National Political Commission. He and Leandro Isaac were the only representatives of the CNRT leadership who remained in Dili during the wave of violence in April 1999 . Isaac sought protection with the police while Ximenes moved house to house. Only at night could he meet with other activists and journalists. His own house and motorcycle were burned.

From 2002 to 2007 he was a member of the first three East Timor governments as Secretary of State for Veterans and Former Fighters. In 2007, after FRETILIN had to relinquish the government, he moved into the national parliament of East Timor . Here he belonged to the Commission on Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security (Commission B) and was President of the Commission in the legislative period from 2012 to 2017.

In the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 , Ximenes ran for FRETILIN in 9th place and thus moved back into the national parliament . He was again a member of Commission B. Since the minority government of FRETILIN and PD could not prevail in parliament, President Francisco Guterres dissolved it and called for new elections. In the new election on May 12, 2018, Ximenes was able to re-enter parliament at number 5 on the FRETILIN list, where FRETILIN is now the strongest opposition party. Ximenes continues to serve on the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Commission (Commission B).

Ximenes has been a member of the National Security Council since 2017 .

Awards

Ximenes is the holder of the Ordem Nicolau Lobato .
