IC 1649 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Phoenix in the southern sky . It is an estimated 234 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is part of the 10-member NGC 434 group ( LGG 19 ).
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 454 .
The property was discovered by DeLisle Stewart in 1899 .
