The 2nd women's Bundesliga 2019 is the 13th season in the second highest division of American football in Germany for women. The first game of the 2019 season was played by the Mainz Golden Eagles Ladies against the newcomer to the Darmstadt Diamonds Ladies on April 28 at 3 p.m. in Mainz. The DBL2 season 2019 was held from April 28th to August 11th. After the regular season, the play-offs took place, in which the participants of the DBL2 final are determined. The winners of the DBL2 were the Braunschweig Lady Lions , who won the final on September 29th against the Allgäu Comets Ladies with 10:20 pm in Braunschweig.

Game mode

DBL2 2019 is divided into four groups: North, West, South-East and South-West. Each team plays against each team in its own group in the first and second round. After the end of the regular season, the top two of the four DBL2 groups play off the champions of the 2nd women's Bundesliga in the play-off in the knockout system. The first in group north plays against the second in group west in the first quarter-finals and the first in group west against the second in group north in the second quarter-finals. The third quarter-finals will be played by the winner of the South-West group against the second in the South-East group. The first of the group south-east plays in the fourth quarter-finals against the second of the group south-west.

The winners of the 1st and 2nd quarter-finals play in the 1st semifinals and the winners of the 3rd and 4th quarter-finals in the 2nd semifinals. The winners from both semi-finals play for the DBL2 championship. In addition, since 2018 both teams have been obliged to advance to the 1st women's Bundesliga.

Since 2010, the minimum game strength on gameday has been 16 players. The game is 9 tackle (9 on 9) of 4 × 10 minutes. If a team leads with more than 35 points, the so-called Mercy Rule comes into force (although it is carried out unofficially, as it was not officially listed in the statutes).

Season course

The regular season started on April 28th and ends on August 11th. For the first time there were two in the DBL2 Syndicates (SG): SG Duisburg / Mülheim (West) and SG Crailsheim / Tübingen (South-East). There were a total of four new teams in DBL2: Erfurt Indigos (South-East), Gießen Golden Dragons (West), Trier Stampers and Darmstadt Diamonds (South-West). The Mainz Golden Eagles Ladies are starting again in DBL2 for the first time since 2015, after the DBL season 2018 was prematurely ended and had to relegate. Shortly before the season, the Spandau Bulldogs and Erlangen Sharks teams had to withdraw from the game. As a result, SG Crailsheim / Tübingen slipped from the original south-west group to south-east group.

The group winners in the play-offs were the Bochum Miners (group west), as well as the undefeated Hannover Grizzlies (group north), SG Crailsheim / Tübingen (group south-east), Mainz Golden Eagles (south-west). The Aachen Vampires (group west), Saarland Hurricanes (group south-west), Allgäu Comets (group south-east) and the Braunschweig Lady Lions (group north) reached the quarter-finals as second group.

The winners of the quarter-finals moved into the subsequent semi-finals: SG Crailsheim / Tübingen, Hannover Grizzlies and Braunschweig Lady Lions. Except for the Allgäu Comets, who were automatically selected as the winners for the semi-finals due to the game being canceled by Mainz. The winning teams of the two semi-finals Braunschweig Lady Lions and Allgäu Comets met on September 29th in the final of the DBL2. The hosts from Braunschweig won the final with 22:20.
