2. Football Bundesliga (women)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2nd Football Bundesliga (also the 2nd Women's Bundesliga , DBL2 ) is the second highest German division in American football for women. In contrast to the 1st women's Bundesliga , the 2nd women's Bundesliga is played 9 on 9 (9 tackle) and 4 × 10 minutes. In addition, the Mercy Rule applies if the lead exceeds 35 points . This licensing league was originally introduced as a development league for the women's Bundesliga, but has established itself over the years as a separate league. Women aged 16 and over are eligible to play.

History and Development

In 1995, a second national division for women's football was convened for the first time. Due to a lack of teams, she was hired after half a year. There was a new attempt 13 years later in 2008. At that time, started as a development league, the 2nd women's Bundesliga has developed steadily over the years and is enjoying more and more teams taking part.

1995 - foundation

Since the demand was very high, a 2nd women's league was established in 1995. Two regional groups were planned in which eight teams would play against each other. Due to various rejections, four teams ultimately took part in the second division in a single group. These first four teams included:

1996 - Transfer to the 1st Bundesliga

All teams in the 2nd women's league were transferred to the 1st Bundesliga. After just one season there was no longer a second women's league. The reason for this was the lack of teams.

2008 - Re-establishment as DAL development league

The new edition of a second Bundesliga started with four teams. Initially, the second division was seen as a development league, which should make the entry requirements easier for new teams. Due to an agreement of the state associations of Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, the Aufbauliga could be made possible. The Aufbauliga was led under the name DAL .

The games were played in the 9 on 9 mode (at least 5 players instead of 7 on the LOS) and with a reduced playing time of 4 × 8 minutes. In order to receive a license to play in the DAL, the team needed at least 18 player passports. In addition, the usual costs for deposit and license fees had to be paid to the regional association. On the day of the match, the team had to have at least 13 players capable of playing.

The aim was to create the opportunity for tackle football for teams with small cadres or after they have been founded. In addition, this advanced league was in preparation for the women's Bundesliga. Four teams competed against each other on a total of eight match days of the 2nd women's Bundesliga 2008 (football) .

The first matchday took place on June 7th, 3 p.m. in Bochum between the Bochum Miners and Salzgitter Black Widows. Since there were no play-offs, there was no final.

2009 - renamed and for the first time with play-offs

Due to the great response to the game in the 9th tackle in the previous year, the federal association introduced the 2nd DBL. In the second year the women's advanced league was renamed women's Bundesliga 2 and originally consisted of eight teams in the second women's Bundesliga 2009 (football) . After the withdrawal of the Flensburg Sealadies, the women's Bundesliga 2 was reduced to seven teams, divided into north and south groups. For the first time a play-off round was introduced for the second highest division. In the final game, the order of promotion to the 1st women's Bundesliga should be determined.

The first matchday with three games took place on May 16. The Mainz women won the final between the Salzgitter Black Widows and Mainz Lady Warriors with 19:26.
