Pacho Galán

Francisco Galán Blanco ( Pacho Galán ; born October 3, 1904 in Soledad , † July 21, 1988 in Barranquilla ) was a Colombian composer.

Galán composed the waltz Teresa at the age of fourteen . His Rumba Masato was recorded in 1929 by the Orquesta Panamericana on the Columbia Records label in the USA. In the same year he married Carmen Gravini . Armando Galán's three children embarked on a musical career as a trumpeter, arranger and music teacher.

At first he was a member of the Banda Departamental , later he joined the Luis Felipe Sosas orchestra . After Sosa's death in 1940 he founded the Atlántico Jazz Band , for which he arranged Porros, Guarachas, Cumbiaas and Fandangos. His international success began in 1952 when he recorded at Discos Sonolux in Medellín, worked with Luis Uribe and became known as El Rey del Merecumbé . In addition to the Merecumbé, he created numerous other dance rhythms such as Chiquichá, Bambugay, Mecemece, Tuki Tuki, Caminaito and Ritmo Pa. He also composed boleros and pasillos, waltzes and torbellinos and popular porros such as El brazalete , El collar rosado , Marquitos Vanegas , Mario Jimeno and Barranquilla .
