NGC 434 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Toucan in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 215 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years across. Together with PGC 4344 it forms a bound galaxy pair and with NGC 440 the trio KTS 8 . The galaxy is part of the 10-member NGC 434 group (LGG 19).
The object was discovered on October 28, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
