NGC 427 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . It is an estimated 452 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 135,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 439 , NGC 441 , IC 1657 , among others .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on September 25, 1834 .
