NGC 407 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 256 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 135,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 410 , NGC 414 , IC 1636 , IC 1638 .
The object was discovered on September 12, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
