NGC 418 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 254 million light years from the Milky Way and about 150,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 1637 .
The Type IIP supernova SN 2014co was observed here.
It was discovered as a foggy object on September 28, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel in South Africa.
