NGC 426 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Forest Fish south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 235 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 429 , NGC 430 , IC 1640 , IC 1643 .
The object was discovered on December 20, 1786 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
