NGC 439 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E / SB0 in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . It is an estimated 258 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 190,000 light years in diameter.

The Type Ia supernova SN 2006di was observed here.

The object was discovered on September 27, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
