NGC 429 is a lenticular galaxy of Hubble type S0 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 254 million light years from the Milky Way and about 105,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 426 , NGC 430 , IC 1640 , IC 1643 .
The object was discovered on December 20, 1786 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
