NGC 430 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 240 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 426 , NGC 429 , IC 1640 , IC 1643 .
The object was discovered on October 1, 1785 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel . It is too faint for inclusion in the Messier catalog, but in the NGC it is about average.
