Albin Denk is an old traditional company in Vienna that deals in porcelain, glasses and gifts. The shop is located in Vienna's 1st district, Innere Stadt , Am Graben 13.
history
The tradition of the company goes back to the Pre-Theresian era in 1702, when a pottery company was founded in 1702 in an underground vault of a former municipal ice mine.
At the time, pottery was being sold on St. Peter's Square in Vienna, porcelain was not yet being produced at the time. 1708/09 when porcelain started to be produced, the "Eisgrübel" on Petersplatz was the first specialist shop to offer these products to customers, especially those from the Viennese manufactory. The "Action Almanac" from 1849 lists Albin Denk as a sworn appraiser. He sold kk Neumarkter stoneware, porcelain from the Bohemian kk porcelain manufacturer Elbogen and offered genuine Wedgwood tableware. Both the nobility and the upper bourgeoisie became customers, and supplies were even supplied to the imperial court. For this, in 1878, Denk was appointed supplier to the Imperial and Royal Court . After his death, his wife Amalie took over the business and finally sold it to Gustav Resch.
At the turn of the century, the business moved from St. Peter's Square to the Generali-Haus am Graben. In 1910 it changed hands again. In addition to porcelain, Albin Denk also sold glass, silver-plated goods and handicrafts. With the First World War , the collapse of the monarchy in 1918, the great economic crisis and the bomb damage during the Second World War , the company was able to survive despite all the turmoil. In the turmoil of the times, almost all of the company's archive material was lost.
On the occasion of the 250th anniversary in 1952, Minister of Commerce Josef C. Böck-Greissau and the Mayor of Vienna, Franz Jonas , personally offered their congratulations.
