NGC 406 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Toucan on southern sky . It is estimated to be 61 million light years from the Milky Way and around 60,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on November 3, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
