NGC 389 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is an estimated 246 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 393 .
The object was discovered on September 6, 1885 by the American astronomer Lewis A. Swift .
