NGC 398 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 229 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 387 , NGC 388 , NGC 399 , NGC 403 .

The object was discovered on October 28, 1886 by the French astronomer Guillaume Bigourdan .
