NGC 398 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 229 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 387 , NGC 388 , NGC 399 , NGC 403 .
The object was discovered on October 28, 1886 by the French astronomer Guillaume Bigourdan .
