NGC 399 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 238 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years across. Together with 21 other galaxies, it is a member of the NGC 452 group ( LGG 18 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 379 , NGC 387 , NGC 398 , NGC 403 .
The object was discovered on October 7, 1874 by the Irish astronomer Lawrence Parsons .
