Tipitapa is a municipality in the Managua department in Nicaragua .

The place is conveniently located on the Panamericana 22 km east of Managua and very close to Managua International Airport on Lake Managua .

history

Around 4000 BC BC people walked on the edge of Lake Managua and left their marks in Huellas de Acahualinca. On Nahuat , Tipitapa means place of stone mats . In 596 Chorotegas were here. In the area of ​​the municipality is the Hacienda San Jacinto on which on September 14, 1856 the battle of San Jacinto against the filibustiers of William Walker was fought .

Pacto del Espino Negro

Tipitapa is located near the large Las Mercedes free trade zone with more than 30,000 employees in maquilas . Chemical companies, manufacturers of pesticides and furniture upholsterers, who are suppliers to US furniture manufacturers, are located in the free trade zone. Chentex Garment SA is one of the large maquila factories of "Las Mercedes" and belongs to the Taiwanese group of companies Nien Hsing , one of the world's largest jeans producers, which operates four other maquilas in Nicaragua. Chentex employs around 1,900 women who produce trousers for the US market.

Agriculture

Agricultural products such as cattle, melons, corn, sorghum and peanuts are produced in the area.

The Asociación Coordinadora Municipal de Proyectos de Ciudades Hermanas de Tipitapa (COMPALCIHT) was founded in 1987 and coordinates projects of partner cities such as social work, nutrition programs, agricultural projects, health promotion, youth programs and school projects. Since 1987 there has been a New York-Tipitapa Sister City Project, which was founded by the Committee for Non-Intervention in Central America and promotes conscious cultural exchange.

Fiestas

From January 6th to 30th, the patron "Esquipulas" or Cristo Negro is celebrated.

Río Tipitapa

The Rio Tipitapa or Río Panaloya is the outflow from Lake Managua near Tipitapa into Lake Nicaragua .
