NGC 424 is a lenticular galaxy with an active galaxy core of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . It is an estimated 155 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 105,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 438 .
The object was discovered on November 30, 1837 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
