NGC 449 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 220 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 50,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 443 , NGC 447 , NGC 451 , IC 1648 , among others .
The object was discovered on November 11, 1881 by the French astronomer Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan .
