NGC 466 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Toucan in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 230 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is part of the 10-member NGC 434 group ( LGG 19 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 484 .
The object was discovered on October 3, 1836 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
