NGC 487 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sa in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 266 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on November 28, 1885 by the American astronomer Francis Preserved Leavenworth .
