NGC 496 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 275 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 130,000 ly.

The object was discovered on September 12, 1784 by the German-British astronomer William Herschel .
