NGC 503 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation fish on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 271 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 501 , NGC 507 , NGC 508 , IC 1687 .
The object was discovered on August 13, 1863 by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Ludwig d'Arrest .
