NGC 503 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation fish on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 271 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 501 , NGC 507 , NGC 508 , IC 1687 .

The object was discovered on August 13, 1863 by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Ludwig d'Arrest .
