Chuval

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chowal is the name of larger camel and tent bags of the Turkmen, mostly very finely woven or knotted on the front . Their purpose is to transport and store supplies, bedding, blankets and clothing or smaller items. Chowals are always made in pairs.

Patterns, colors and knots are reminiscent of the manufacture of Turkmen carpets. The term also includes the similarly finely crafted saddlecloths and portals , which are hung over the tent entrance on festive occasions. These regularly have fine stripe patterns with small motifs. The knot density can be up to 500,000 Persian knots per square meter.
