NGC 519 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E4 in the constellation Cetus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 244 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 530 , NGC 538 , IC 1693 , IC 1696 .
The object was discovered on November 20, 1886 by the American astronomer Lewis A. Swift .
