NGC 530 = IC 106 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 + in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is about 226 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 100,000 light years. It is the brightest member of the eight galaxies NGC 530 group ( LGG 22 ) and part of the galaxy cluster Abell 194 .
The object was discovered on November 20, 1886 by the American astronomer Lewis A. Swift ( listed as NGC ) and rediscovered on November 16, 1887 by Guillaume Bigourdan (listed as IC ).
