NGC 555 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 457 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 50,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 554 , NGC 556 , NGC 578 , among others .
The object was discovered in 1886 by the American astronomer Frank Muller .
