NGC 560 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 249 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 150,000 light-years across. It is part of the Abell 194 galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 558 , NGC 564 , IC 119 , IC 120 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on October 1, 1785 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
