NGC 558 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E5 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is around 224 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 25,000 light years . 
The galaxies NGC 560 , NGC 564 , IC 119 , IC 120 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on February 1, 1864 by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
