NGC 535 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 222 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter. Together with seven other galaxies, it forms the NGC 530 group ( LGG 22 ).
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 538 , NGC 541 , NGC 545 , NGC 547 .

The supernova SN 1988ad was observed here.

The object was discovered on October 31, 1864 by Heinrich Ludwig d'Arrest .
