NGC 551 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is an estimated 239 million light years from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on September 21, 1786 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
